Trump Welcomes Peace Between India and Pakistan

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump expressed his approval of the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, emphasizing that millions of lives could have been at risk without this peace agreement. He highlighted the potential for nuclear conflict in his remarks. In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump stated, "I am very proud of the strong and unwavering leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much."

Trump's Commitment to Mediation

Trump further remarked, "Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions." He reiterated his belief that the US played a crucial role in facilitating peace and expressed his willingness to mediate discussions regarding Kashmir. "I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision. While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade substantially with both of these great Nations. Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a 'thousand years,' a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!"

India's Stance on Third-Party Mediation

India has consistently rejected any form of third-party intervention regarding Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the region is an integral part of the nation. On Saturday, Indian officials downplayed the US's role in the recent ceasefire, clarifying that the agreement was reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India's firm stance against terrorism, stating, "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so." Trump's comments, along with previous statements from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have drawn criticism from the opposition Congress.
